The Power Of Vision

One of the most important things in life is to have a vision, and set up goals for what you want to accomplish in your lifetime. The more I grow up, the more I realize that if you dont set a certain vision of what you want to accomplish, the more likely you will look back and regret not doing certain things in your life.

Currently, one of the visions I have, which I'm sure is probably very similar to most of you reading this post is that I want to have a good job after finishing college. Personally I would like to become an accountant, and obtain a CPA license. The steps I'm taking towards accomplishing that vision is obviously going to school and taking courses to get my degree. Also in January I plan on actively beginning to search for internship that will allow me to get some hands on experience in the field of accounting.

Another vision and goal that I have set up for myself is that I want to travel around the U.S., and the world. This past summer I got to go to San Fransico, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Montreal and Israel. I had a blast on all those trips. While I was on the west coast I stayed at different hostels where I got to meet a ton of people from all over the world, and of the biggest differences I found about the U.S. and other countries is the outlook on traveling. Every one I met told me how its pretty much a cultural norm for people to travel from where they're from after completing school and before they start a job and begin to settle down. Meanwhile in the U.S. if you tell someone that you plan on traveling after you complete school, people will look at you like you're crazy. Either way, some of the steps I have taken towards this goal is I've trying to save more money. Also I signed up for a program that will allow me to go Israel and Amsterdam next summer for free.

A third vision that I have for myself is that I want to attend a Fifa World Cup final game. I've always been a huge soccer fan, and have played soccer all my life. Ever since I can remember it was always a dream of mine to be attend a world cup game, and more importantly a world cup final. Although I doubt I'll have the monetary funds to accomplish this at the 2010 world cup in South Africa, hopefully I'd be able to to fulfill this vision of mine at the 2014 world cup in Brazil.

Dmitry,

I completely agree that it's crucial to have a vision. Living without a vision is like traveling without a map!

The plans you have are really awesome. What's really great about them is diversity. You don't crunch all your life into a "school-career-home" box like many people do but your also travel and have other interests in life. I really like your idea of traveling. I like to travel myself. This Christmas I am going to Las Vegas and Grand Canyon. Have you been to Grand Canyon? What rims you think I should visit first? Also, from the cities you have visited so far, which ones you liked most and why?

Regarding the internship, you don't really have to wait until January. The earlier you start the better. And it's simple too. All you need to do is to post your resume online with CDC and employers will contact you for an interview. You never know when a good interview will knock on your door, so it's better to have some "time-cushion". This way you don't end up being an accounting graduate without accounting experience (That would be not a great idea). Also, you may be lucky to find an internship with a rather descent pay.

Good luck with the World Cup! Who knows, maybe you will save enough money to see it in 2010.

I liked L.A. the most. I was there for 5 days and had a total blast. The 5 days definitely weren't enough to do everything I wanted to do there, so I plan on going back there sometime in the future.

I also liked Israel alot. I went there on an organized trip, where we went to pretty every city which was very kool. I'm actually most likely going back to Israel this summer which I'm very excited about.

Las Vegas is a lot fun and I'm sure you'll have a great time when you go there. I felt like you needed alot of money though(which unfortunately I dont have lol) to really enjoy it and get the full Vegas experience. But being out on the Vegas strip and seeing all the casino's that you always see in the movies was pretty unreal experience. Also if you dont mind me asking, do you know where in Vegas you are going to be staying?

I personally love you second vision to travel. I have pretty much same vision. But I wasn't aware that people in the US were hesistant about traveling once they get out of college. Anyway I hope you can achieve all you goals.

Very interesting plans and it's great that you are determined to fulfill all of them!!! I feel that the most important goal for you right now would be the first one of getting a job and your CPA license. Fulfillment of this professional goal would then allow you to not worry too much about financing your other plans of traveling around US and around the world!!!
Also, I think that you put it as your first goal for a reason: although attending a soccer world cup has always been your dream, you are willing to compromise and attend it later when you are more settled in life.

I am planning not to plan where I will stay. I know that every time I make an advance reservation I realize that for the price I could stay in pretty much any motel down the road or maybe even find something cheaper. I was hopping to spend no more than $50.00/night. Am I being realistic or overly optimistic?

Its nice to see that not only do you have a professional vision, but you also have some visions in life that you want to fulfill for your personal pleasure. I think to often times people get caught up in what they need to do with the rest of their lives and not live in the moment. I’m not a huge soccer fan but I do watch a little. My favorite team is Argentina. I’m sure if you have your mind set on attending a World Cup, it will definitely happen for you at some point in your life.

Anastassia, I think you are being pretty realistic. I stayed at a hostel, which was on Las Vegas Blvd. about a 10 min walk from the Sahara hotel. It only cost me $19 per night. So if you look around online and book ahead I'm sure you'll be able to find a decent motel that is in your price range. Just don't go of too far from the Vegas strip cause the neighborhood does get a little a dodgy after that.

Dmitry,

Thank you very much for such useful tips! 20.00 per night is much better than what I initially budgeted. And I will stay away from creepy neighborhoods.
I am very excited about the tip. I will be driving from Albuquerque to GC and then to LV. I even think I may post something about it on my blog after I come back.
