Decision Making

When the professor told us that he was going to allow the class to decide what he should do with the midterm grade I was very surprised because I never had a class where we were the given that option. When he said that the only way he'd comply with our decision is if we get 100% agreement within the class I knew it was going to be hard seeing how there are so many students in the class and everyone has their own agenda.

I didn't do too bad on the test so my what I wanted most to happen is to get the test curved, that way I would end up with a pretty good grade. I was very glad that getting their tests curved was pretty much on every else's agenda as well so within the first few minutes everyone agreed that that's something we all definitely wanted to happen. At that point I got what I wanted so I decided to just sit back and be accommodating to everyone else's demands. I didn't interject much after that because there were already more than enough people yelling over each other and trying to get their points and their demands across; and seeing how what I wanted to happen most (which was to curve the test) was already in the bag I figured what ever else would happen would be a bonus so I was willing to accomodate what my other classmates wanted without interjecting and causing more conflict and debating.

It definitely was good that some people took a step back as long as they agreed with the main ideas along the way. There was quite a lot of yelling and conflict. As you said, certain points like curving were already accepted by everybody and everything else would be a bonus. In the end our class would have not chosen something that would not be good for most. It was just about how far can we go with demands. What was most important was that we all agree on a package and that we luckily did.

Glad to see that you were willing to help your fellow students who got bad grades and wanted to drop the lowest grade of the 2 exams even though you could probably careless. Yes I was surprised to know that we had the option to change the rules of the course as well. So at least everybody got something out from it.

My blog is about the same thing, that's pretty funny. I felt like for the first test, it was definately an eye opener as to how hard/easy the professors test are and I believe that we are going to study a lot more for the upcoming one. I didn't do that poorly myself either and all I was concerned about was the curve as well so I didn't voice much neither when it came to a consensus that we all wanted it. Regarding the format, I didn't think it would make much of a difference if we really buckled down and studied the material.

im thankful for people like you who sat back and just decided that if an idea was good for most people than it should be implimented. i was also suprised that he gave us a chance to restructure the test format as well as let us decide what to do with the grading system. good thing we all came to an agreement.

I was amazed too when the professor said that we could rule the exam as long as everyone in the classroom agreed. Also, I was glad that our classmates had pointed out about the curve, extra credit, and droping the lowest grade. About the format, i don't agree with Angela N. said that by changing the format would not affect your grade as long as you study. I feel the format of the exam influence my grade a lot, especially the essay part, which i lost 27 points on it because i am not good at essay.

I was pretty shocked too when he said that he would let us decide how to fix our grade. Plus the fact that he let us change the format of the second midterm. I guess like you, I didn't really say much about how to improve our grades. I didn't get a great score and I did want a better grade. I just felt like the rest of the class' bickering would have benefitted me too, so I just sat while everyone was screaming out their ideas.

I also was positively surprised when P. Kurpis announced that if we are able to aggree at 100% he will change the format and possibly drop the lowest grade.
Best of all I like the fact that he proposed this after we had already taken the first mid-term.
Infarct I dont like when professors say it up front that they will dropp the lowest grade. That may make the students not study as hard as they should in the first exam, thinking that they still have a second chance with the seconb exam, since the lowest grade willl be dropped. So i was happy that he had hidden it from us.
